This post is all about Liverpool! Alot to Post especially after the 4th straight victory! :D Most likely 5th on sunday against Bolton! 17 goals in 4 games, all matches won by at least a 2-goal margin :D
Lazy post about Yesterday's match prior to it and after it, be posting it tomorrow lol...
"John Terry and Steven Gerrard are to be consulted by Brian Barwick over who the next England manager should be.
The Football Association chief executive yesterday began his search for Steve McClaren's successor and wants the advice of senior players such as Terry, the team captain, and Gerrard, the vice-captain. "
For me? Dont choose on the Manager's nationality, but on the Manager's prestige. Look at teams like Portugal,Russia, they all have foreign managers...
"Steven Gerrard insists he can put England’s Euro 2008 misery to the back of his mind and help Liverpool march on in their quest for a first Premier League title.
The skipper put in an inspirational display in the 3-0 win over Newcastle, scoring one and setting up another two as the Reds continued their unbeaten start to the season.
Rafa Benitez was delighted with the performance of his players after they romped to an impressive 3-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park. "
Actually, this Newcastle match, Gerrard was undeservingly booed by the Newcastle fans... Anyways, i was also overjoyed with the victory and forgotten the misery that Agger and Alonso will return maybe on Sunday or next Wednesday against Marseille. But they could have won more than 5-0 but Torres was the villian of not taking the chances.
"Rafael Benitez believes his team can beat Porto at Anfield on Wednesday night and give themselves a real chance of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League."
I was awfully confident that they would win the match until the moment Porto equalised... Scary! It was Fear & Anxiety until Torres scored his second! :D
"Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch and Scott Carson will face Anfield teammate Andriy Voronin as England meet Ukraine in the World Cup qualifiers.
John Arne Riise and Norway will do battle with Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel's Holland. Scotland, FYR Macedonia and Iceland complete Group Nine."
These are the games where teammates will clash! Good chance for England to have their revenge, but 1st, find a manager... Guess Norway wont get further than Holland!
"Liverpool co-Chairmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks have today released the following statement.
"Despite speculation in today's newspapers, there is nothing new to say.
"We had a good win yesterday and have got some very important games coming up starting with Porto on Wednesday, followed by Bolton and Reading, before Marseille and Manchester United in a few weeks.
"Both of us, together with Chief Executive Rick Parry, plan to meet with Rafa when we come over mid December to make decisions on the team's requirements at that time.
Pepe Reina insists he and his teammates will not be distracted by off-the-field events ahead of their crunch Champions League clash with Porto on Wednesday night. "
Damn! Liverpool have a tough time from Marseille, to Man U, to Chelsea and then Portsmouth! Tough 11 days for these 4 matches! 11/12 to 22/12! If Rafa can mastermind all these wins then im sure he will make those two old hags shut up and let him spend $$ when Rafa unveiled Torres against Porto, it was money worth spending. Benayoun,Torres and Babel impressed when they arrived, money well spent. Support Benitez!
"Pepe Reina is sure he and his teammates have the quality to progress to the second round of the Champions League. "
In order to do this, the remaining test is the toughest of all 3 matches, against Marseille in Paris. Reina must gather his defenders well and feed the Forwards with wonderful kicks!
My dream line-up against Marseille which is 2 weeks away, Reina,Finnan,Carra,Agger,Arbeloa,Babel,Mascherano,Gerrard,Pennant/Benayoun,Torres,
Crouch! Subs would be Pennant/Benayoun,Kuyt,Alonso,Kewell & Itandje
"Xabi Alonso and Daniel Agger will not be fit to face Porto in Wednesday’s crucial Champions League clash.
Rafa Benitez confirmed the pair, along with long-term absentee Jermaine Pennant, were his only injury worries ahead of the Group A game.
Both Agger and Alonso have been out with metatarsal injuries since Pompey on September 15, though Alonso returned briefly against Arsenal at the end of October."
When i saw this, i had confirmed my fear that if Liverpool were to draw or lose at Anfield against Porto, Hyypia's definitely to blame. Anyways, Hyypia did impress but he'll need to improve his pace against Marseille's Cisse & Man U's Ronaldo and Rooney... Agger would be the best choice though ;)
"Rafa Benitez believes the experience of must-win games against Olympiacos, Juventus and Chelsea will see his team through to the second round of the Champions League. "
I definitely remember these 3 games which were the way to their trimuph in Istanbul in 2005! Olympiacos to get to last 16! Juventus to semis! Chelsea to finals! BTW, Juventus was before they got demoted to Serie B. This will definitely give them hope against Marseille! All-or-for-Nothing Match! I expect Rafa to go all full force against them!
